China Building Restoration

Project: China Building Restoration (CBR) is a website that reports on all things related to building restoration and sustainable building projects in China. The website (chinabuildingrestoration.com) was founded in 2011 by Amy Mathieson, a British – Chinese architect with a passion for all things related to traditional architecture and cultures. The purpose of CBR is to provide a comprehensive summary of the building restoration industry in China and to act as a resource for others with similar interests.

“After I moved to Beijing in 2010, I started researching the building restoration and sustainable building industries in China. However, I found there was no reliable source of information to turn to.” - Amy explains why she started the website.

anySCALE shares Amy’s interest in building restoration. While topics such as building restoration, sustainable building practices and building preservation are still relatively uncharted in China, we have observed a steady rise in demand for considered, sympathetic building restoration projects. Having a keen interest in Chinese culture and the preservation of Beijing’s remaining traditional architecture, anySCALE is now collaborating with Amy Mathieson to create a more active presence in this field.

Since the start of 2015 the two organisations have been working on several courtyard restoration projects together, additionally, they are running a Speakers’ Series in which experts in the field of building restoration are invited to talk about their experiences in front of an audience hosted in the Courtyard Institute space.
