“A school is more than a classroom.” Based on this premise, the German School invited anySCALE to upgrade the corridors of their Hongqiao campus, bringing new energy to these often undervalued spaces and renewing the overall facility.
The renovation went beyond improved illumination, acoustics, and refreshed colours. It introduced a new concept structured around the four seasons, creating a meaningful identity through colour, materiality, and play.
Four distinct piazzas within the primary school were equipped with playful furniture, wall games, floor graphics, and climbing elements. These interventions allow the spaces to function both as break-out areas and as extensions of the classroom.
Although the intervention was limited to the corridors, the impact reaches further—the entire primary school now appears in a renewed and vibrant light, with the design radiating into adjacent learning spaces.
