anySCALE won the tender competition and is now appointed as the architect and design partner for Daystar Academy’s campus extension project. The existing campus of this bilingual international school in Beijing will be extended to host both primary school and middle school. anySCALE developed comprehensive concept designs for architecture, structural engineering, interior, as well as landscaping for the extension. anySCALE is very honoured to have the opportunity of creating a healthy, inspiring and also modern educational environment for our next generation.
We are particularly attached to this project as it holds great significance to us as we’re also parents of Daystar Academy students ourselves. The specials roles we’re playing ensure our ability to best relate to both the kids’ and parents’ needs.
We want to create a school that both kids and parents love!
After several rounds of discussions, we extended the school with three parts: A schoolhouse that includes different kinds of class rooms, facilities for teachers, cafeteria, a huge library and multifunction areas; An L-shaped after-school activity house; A multi-function sports field with running tracks, basket ball, volley ball and tennis courts all embedded within an overall landscape concept. In addition we will also provide basic maintenance to the existing parts of the school.
Two bridges connect the newly added schoolhouse (north) and the existing schoolhouse (south). The existing facilities will be turned into a class rooms only building, while the new addition will include sections with multiple functions and several special classrooms for music, 3D printing room and “Design for Change” (to rethink the future). Considering the new building located at the north end does not receive too much direct sunlight we therefore implemented large light wells to bring natural daylight into the building. For example within the library there will be a cozy reading lounge situated around the light well.
A modern international school should be designed to be a healthy environment for its users. Daystar Academy will be equipped with a built-in air cleaning system to guarantee a constant value of pm2,5 lower than 25ug/cbm. Additionally, all materials selected for use within the school will be low emitting materials. This will also apply for all built-in items as well for loose furniture.
