In the Eye of the Crocodile

We're delighted to have been invited to exhibit our work at the Architectural Design Expo (CADE) 2020, which was organized by the German Design Council. A booth was set up during the four-day expo from October 29 to November 1 in the China International Exhibition Center (New Venue) Hall W1, Beijing. Other previous award recipients invited by the council included ISA, AS+P, and Taikang Life.

For this expo, we designed a unique booth display in the shape of a crocodile's mouth with an interactive eye. The "crocodile mouth" is a dark metal grey box, cut-away to resemble large jagged teeth in a wide-open mouth. Such boldness and power are at first alluring. However, a closer look reveals the "teeth" as illuminated stills of award-winning and signature anySCALE projects with a further five screens showing slideshows and movies.

"The crocodile is considered one of the most dangerous animals on the planet," explains anySCALE Founder and Managing Partner Andreas Thomczyk.

"But at the same time, it's a symbol of cuteness and approachability, used in kids branding, for example," he says. "It's this tension of contrast that inspired me when thinking about presenting anySCALE at the expo."
