The Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) project sees an old factory warehouse converted into a state-of-the-art music workplace with songwriter rooms, a large event lounge and an urban roof terrace for hang outs. Completed in 2021, the two-story 600 square meter office is an airy, dynamic space that conveys a sense of creative freedom - an ideal destination for musical production in Shanghai.
The façade features a gold powder-coated canopy and industrial doors with an engraved UMPG logo, creating a fresh presence to contrast the original factory building. Inside, all non-load bearing walls were removed to brighten and open up the space, which features a scaffolded staircase at its center, adorned with gold and platinum records engraved with the lyrics of the company’s artists. The ground floor primarily serves as a welcome area and songwriter lounge, featuring a stage niche framed by two LED screens for presentations, events, and parties.
Quieter and more subtle, the second floor is designed to comfortably accommodate working musicians. The existing structure was converted into 5 songwriter rooms - isolated acoustic environments that meet the highest industry standards, providing total sound-proofed privacy and solitude for vocal recordings. Upstairs, the rooftop features a bar lounge and open terrace space with a long, built-in bench, sun sail, and a flexible furniture arrangement for parties.
anySCALE creates contrast by integrating softer, warm aesthetics to accentuate the original industrial character of the old warehouse. Plaster was removed from the walls to reveal raw brickwork – scratchy walls juxtaposed by the addition of soft acoustic panels, fine textiles, and sleek metallic materials. Meanwhile, a modern linear lighting system complements the natural wooden floors and ceilings, lending the office a warm and comfortable feeling.
The space embodies the musical spirit of the company in a setting that is elegant, relaxed and inspiring, fit for both formal meetings and jam sessions. anySCALE’s realized UMPG office concept fluidly incorporates the new with the old, creating an environment that is conducive to creativity and collaboration.
项目的原身是一个老旧的工厂仓库，现在被改造为具有艺术气息的音乐工作室，兼容词曲编写室、大型活动休闲区以及可供社交休憩的屋顶户外露台。落成于2021年的这个拥有两层共600平米的办公室项目，透过开放且充满活力的空间设计，传达崇尚自由的创作力，为身处上海的音乐制作人提供了完美的创作空间。
入口门的外立面及其上方延伸出来的顶棚材质为金色粉末喷涂，工业风的大门上雕刻着UMPG的logo，营造出清新的外观形象，与原有的工厂建筑形成鲜明对比。回到室内空间，所有非承重墙都被拆除了，为了尽可能的使空间变得明亮和开放，在正中央的工业化楼梯周边，装饰着刻有公司签约艺术家歌词的黄金及铂金唱片。一层的主要功能为欢迎待客区及词曲作者休息区，此外，一个由两块LED屏幕围成的小型舞台，用于路演、活动及派对。
作为提供给音乐人的专属工作空间，二层的设计则更注重于安静和细致。原有的结构被切割为五间词曲编写工作室，拥有独立的隔音条件，满足业内人士在创作时对声学的高标准需求，兼顾私密性及独立性。楼上的屋顶露台设置了吧台及休息区，配有长条形的内置长凳、阳光顶、以及活动家具，提供派对的灵活性。
anySCALE将柔和且温暖的美学手法，与旧仓库原本的工业特性相结合，突出了工业味，创造反差感。对墙体的石膏板进行了拆除，显露出建筑本身的砖墙，将柔软的吸音板、精美的布料、以及简洁的金属材质并排排列，井然有序。此外，具有现代感的条形灯光照明系统与纯天然的木地板和天花上的木材相得益彰，为整个办公空间增添了一抹温暖与舒适。
这个充满音乐灵魂与精神的空间，设计风格优雅、轻松、启发灵感，也兼具了正式会议和即兴演奏会的多重使用可能性。anySCALE为环球音乐出版集团打造了新旧融合、兼备创造与协作传导力的全新办公室。
